I can't see anything...

Earlier this year, I added a cargo rack to my Jeep. This rack would be great to carry the odds and ends that didn't make it into the back for some of my Overlanding trips and has held up great.

I often find myself arriving in a spot to set up camp after dark, and nothing is more frustrating than being unable to see as you set up camp or work towards preparing a meal. As I realized I had great space to mount lights on my cargo rack, I started my research.

After looking at website after website and review after review, I finally settled on the KC HiLites Cyclone lights.

These lights are small in diameter and equally thin and have a simple mounting design. The Cyclones would be perfect for my setup as I didn't want big, bulky lights, yet I wanted something that provided a good amount of light output.

I decided two per side should be sufficient, and I also decided on amber lights, which are easier on the eyes after dark than white light, yet provide more 'usable' light than red. It wasn't until after my lights arrived I discovered my dilemma. Forward aimed LED's mounted at a 90-degree angle do not provide much in terms of light output where I need it most.

Nevertheless, another internet search for a solution ensued. Eventually, I stumbled across an Etsy site that had what I was looking for. That solution was an aluminum pod designed for the KC Cyclone lights.

The pods protect the Cyclone lights and allow a choice of multiple mounting angles, 0, 22.5, 30, and 45-degrees. I went with the 22.5 as I felt it would work best for what I was trying to accomplish.

An order and short wait and my pods had arrived, and I couldn't wait to get my lights mounted to my cargo rack. As you can see, the pods have a hole for the mounting bolt and another for the wiring. I commend the thought process that went into this design! Mounting was super simple, and wiring, while not my favorite thing in the world to do, was relatively easy in this situation.

As you can see, these KC Cyclone lights look great mounted to the cargo rack, and the angle provides the light exactly where I wanted it.

If you have any questions about the pods or the lights, feel free to comment below.

Thanks,
